I am a second generation tenant farmer of the Penshurst Place Estate near Tonbridge running a sheep and arable enterprise.
I run 800 breeding ewes, mainly Dorset and Suffolk cross mules, which are divided into a January and an April lambing flock, the latter producing replacements for the early lambing flock. In addition I purchase store lambs and cull ewes to finish throughout the winter.
The arable enterprise amounts to 1000 acres on rented, share farmed and contract farmed agreements growing the range of combinable crops some of which are followed with catch/forage crops to be utilised by the sheep.
My wife, Amanda, plays an active part in the business as do our two children aged 10 and 13.
